JOHN DAY – October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and representatives from Heart of Grant County and Grant County Victim’s Assistance were recently in the Elkhorn Media Group John Day studio to discuss the issue locally. Elisha Nightingale, Heart of Grant County Advocate, gave our listeners a look at domestic violence in Grant County this year:
“We, so far, this year, have serviced over 60 different women, and 8 different men. I think that statistic for our size of community is pretty eye-opening for people to think about. As far as shelter nights provided, sometimes that means one or two nights in a motel room if that’s a better fit; or taking them into our shelter. We have provided over 170 shelter nights [so far] for 2024.”
