Washington man arrested in Baker City trying to break into an impounded car

BAKER CITY – (Release from the Baker City Police Department) On October 16th, 2024, at about 3:30 am Baker City Police Officers responded to a reported car alarm and lights coming from a car that Oregon State Police had impounded the day prior as the driver was arrested for DUII by OSP. The car was at Roadrunner Towing in Baker City. The reporting party described seeing someone jump the tow yard fence and get picked up by another vehicle. Officers shortly thereafter located the vehicle and identified the passenger as Elian Santillan Cruz, who OSP had previously arrested for DUII. The car in the tow-yard had been broken into.

Elian was arrested for criminal trespassing 2nd degree for entering the tow yard and car. During the incident Elian was not compliant with officers and resisted the arrest resulting in a charge of resisting arrest. Upon a search of his backpack officers located about a half pound of methamphetamine. He was additionally charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine. Investigation is continuing.
