UMATILLA COUNTY – The Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office has Roth ID tags available
for the public. The tags can be picked up at the Pendleton office now during normal
office hours. They will be available at the Hermiston office next week, because the office
staff is on vacation this week.
A Roth ID tag is an emergency identification tool that first responders can utilize during
a traumatic incident when a child or an incapacitated person cannot communicate who
they are or who to contact. The tags can be affixed to a child’s car seat. It can be pulled
from the vehicle and used as an emergency identification wristband. The tags have a
space for identifying who the person is, giving three emergency contacts, and providing
additional information like a first language or speech limitations.
The tags were inspired by a tragic incident on the Ohio Turnpike when Julie Roth was
caught in a 47-plus vehicle collision. Roth and the baby she was carrying did not
survive, but her two toddlers did. The injured children had to wait for hours while first
responders worked to identify them and contact their father.
Julie Roth’s sister, Lauren Crafton, is the founder and chief executive officer of Roth ID
Tag LLC. More information on the tags are at https://youtu.be/pTo2tOSWabw.
