PENDLETON – Supply chain difficulties made it impossible for the Pendleton Police
Department to receive the vehicles they needed last year. This year, they are adding
three sports utility vehicles to the fleet, but work is still involved in getting them ready to
hit the road.
“Last year we weren’t able to gain any, but this year we did,” Police Chief Chuck Byram
said. “We have three new 2025 Ford Explorer police interceptor SUVs.”
The Pendleton City Council will consider outfitting those vehicles for duty at its meeting
tonight (Tuesday) at 7 p.m. The only provider for outfitting emergency vehicles in the
area is Day Wireless in Pasco. Two of the new SUVs will enter the patrol fleet and the
third will go to Byram, who skipped a new vehicle the last time around.
The cost of outfitting the new vehicles is in the police department’s budget and will total
$55,008.02. There may be a minimal additional added cost for decommissioning the two
patrol vehicles that are being replaced.
The council meeting will be at Pendleton City Hall. It is also available via Zoom.
Instructions for that are on the agenda for the meeting at
