HUNTINGTON – The City of Huntington has issued a reminder to citizens regarding what can and can’t be flushed. The following is a notice issued by the City of Huntington. “As your diligent public works staff begin the preparations for winterization, we would like to take a moment to remind people that there are certain things that can’t be flushed down the toilet or go down the sinks. Please do NOT flush diaper wipes (even if they say they’re flushable, they’re not). Please don’t flush greasy foods down the toilet. Please do not pour bacon grease or any grease down the sink. In short, if you’re not sure if it can go down the drain or the toilet it probably can’t. Grease can build up in the sewer lines and cause all sorts of problems. Diaper wipes, or other things being flushed down the toilets can cause sewer lines to plug up and then back up into your home. Nobody wants that. So please use caution when pouring something down the sink, or flushing. I don’t know about anyone else, but we keep a coffee can next to the sink for all things grease and oil.”
