California team takes command of Tiger Creek Fire

PENDLETON – The Umatilla National Forest reports the Tiger Creek Fire on the Walla Walla Ranger District was five percent contained at 475 acres over the weekend. California Complex Incident Management Team 15 under the leadership of Commander Tom Clemo assumed command on Sunday.

Progress was reported in constructing handline, paying special attention to minimizing impacts on the watershed. Crews are continuing to reinforce the line and are beginning some mop-up operations. On the northern and northeastern flanks crews are working to contain several spot fires with emphasis on a large spot fire east and above Low Creek.

Access through Forest Service Road 65 up through FSR 64 to the junction with Indian Camp is closed. Government Mountain Road/FSR 6511 is closed from the North Fork Walla Walla trailhead to the junction with FSR 65 at Tiger Saddle. Government Mountain Road/FSR6511 is open from the west to North Fork Walla Walla Trailhead.
