Umatilla police arrest an alleged felon in possession of a firearm

UMATILLA – A suspect has been arrested following a reports of shots fired in the area of Wenatchee Street in McNary Wednesday. Officers responding to the scene advised staff at McNary Heights Elementary School of the problem and the school was placed on secure status. That meant that the doors to the outside were locked, but students moved freely inside the building.

The officers determined that a suspect had fired rounds either into the ground or in the air and then left the scene. The school quickly resumed normal operations.

The suspect was determined to be Edgar Nunez Orozco, 33.

“Mr. Orozco was later located and lodged at the Umatilla County Jail with the help of the Hermiston Police Department,” Kylie Baker of UPD said.

Preliminary charges against Orozco were being a felon in possession of a weapon, attempted unlawful use of a weapon, second-degree disorderly conduct, and reckless endangering. His bail has been set at $300,000.
