HERMISTON – Funland Playground at Butte Park in Hermiston closes at 8 a.m. today (Thursday) for maintenance. Sealant will be applied to the surface to extend the life of the poured rubber.
Applying sealant is recommended to occur every four to five years. This is the first time that sealant has been applied. The playground is closed until further notice. Crews need to make sure the sealant is completely dry before it is used again. The public is asked to stay off the surface and equipment until it is reopened.
“Funland Playground is one of the jewels of our park system and is used year-round by thousands of children and families,” Parks and Recreation Director Brandon Artz said. “Regular maintenance ensures that the playground will continue to be a safe and enjoyable place for years to come and that we can keep down costs and extensive closures that would come with replacing the entire playground surface.”
The playground is one of 15 parks in Hermiston maintained by the Parks and Recreation Department. The city maintains more than 100 acres of recreational land and has 50 acres planned for future development.
