LA GRANDE- Update on #MeraFire2024 9:45 p.m. 10/2/24 – Oregon Department of Forestry – Northeast Oregon District La Grande unit Engines, #NEODistrict Dozer, with the assistance of the City of La Grande Fire Department, La Grande Rural Fire Protection District, Union County Sheriff’s Office, have containment on the wildfire on Fox Hill. It is under an acreage in size and firefighters will continue mop up operations through the night. Resources will make sure there are no hotspots that may have potential for flare ups. Cause of fire is under investigation.
This is a reminder that fire danger is still HIGH, and we remain in fire season until we have significant amount of precipitation.

Update from Union County Emergency Management as of 8:05pm 10/2/24 – fire resources on scene have substantially halted growth of the fire and are currently engaged in mop up operations .
Update from Union County Emergency Management as of 5:57pm- Fire update: a fire has started on publicly owned land on Fox Hill. Multiple agencies have responded and several resources are on scene. Responding agencies include La Grande Rural fire, City of La Grande fire department, Union County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon Department of Forestry. There are no evacuations planned at this time. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
Oct 2, 2024 as of 7:50pm, Elkhorn Media Group has confirmed through Union County Emergency Management that numerous resources are on the scene of a wildfire on Fox Hill outside of La Grande. No evacuations have been ordered at this time. No further details are available at this time. We will update as information becomes available.
