UNION – The City of Union recently announced that its local burn ban has been lifted effective today. Residents are reminded that a $10.00 burn permit is still required, which can be picked up at City Hall. Permits are valid for one calendar year. As listed in a recent newsletter, burning within the city limits is restricted to small yard debris (dry leaves, twigs) along with un-waxed paper and cardboard. All garbage burning is prohibited. All fires must be extinguished by dusk each day.
For those outside of the City of Union, Union County lifted the complete countywide burn ban on September 18, though it remains under a regulated use closure until at least October 2. County Commissioners will reevaluate the closure during their October 2 meeting. Incinerator and burn barrel usage remains restricted to between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. each day. Other local municipalities also maintain their own unique burn bans/burn ordinances. Those curious about local burn regulations can check with their city hall or local fire district.
