HERMISTON – Community Connect is preparing to hold its annual event for those facing homelessness from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hermiston Armory, 900 Southeast Columbia Avenue. Last year’s Community Connect was held in Pendleton.
The session offers a wide array of services and is sponsored by the Home for Hope Coalition and the Community Action Program of East Central Oregon (CAPECO).
“It’s a resource fair, for lack of better words, for our unhoused population and our unstably housed population,” CAPECO Program Director Claudia Limon said.
People do not need to register in order to attend. Organizers are currently working to make sure a wide assortment of experts are on hand to help those facing housing difficulties or homelessness. Some of the services they hope to offer are housing shortages, legal advice, veterans services, and health care. They also plan to offer pet care advice, and free flu shots from Good Shepherd Medical Center. They would also like to offer haircuts and free hygiene supplies. Those who would like to volunteer at Community Connect are asked to call Heidi Zeigler of Home 4 Hope at 541-215-0721.
