Resources from Walla Walla head east to help contain Long Hollow Fire

WALLA WALLA – Firefighting resources from the Walla Walla Fire Department, along with Walla Walla County Fire District No. 4 and 8, left Thursday morning to support local firefighters working to contain the Long Hollow Fire in Whitman County near Colfax.

State fire mobilization was activated at 10 p.m. Wednesday. At last report, the fire has burned 2,500 to 3,000 acres.

Whitman County Sheriff Brett Myers said the fire is believed to have been started by lightning. Levels 2 and 3 evacuation orders were issued initially, but those were lowered to Level 1 (Be Ready).

Myers adds the fire is in a relatively remote location. Aside from ground crews, air support has been requested.
