HERMISTON – Brandon Hobart, 33, of Hermiston is facing charges stemming from an alleged attack with a knife at the Oyo Hotel, 655 North First Street early Monday. Police Chief Jason Edmiston said that Hobart, who was “highly intoxicated,” believed a group of men were having sex with an underage female at the hotel.

The investigation indicates that Hobart, armed with a knife, tried to break through the door. Edmiston said that prompted the occupants of the room to flee out a back window.

“Hobart then cornered a 25-year-old transient male in the laundry room and cut his right hand, causing a severe laceration and profuse bleeding,” Edmiston reported.

The victim was taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center where he refused treatment and left against medical advice. The chief said medical staff expressed concern to the officers that the victim could lose his hand if not treated. There was no word at that time as to whether the victim had been located.

Hobart is charged with two felonies: second-degree assault and attempted unlawful use of a weapon. He is also facing misdemeanor charges of first-degree criminal trespass and second-degree criminal mischief for vandalism.
