JOHN DAY – Grant Soil & Water Conservation District Manager Kyle Sullivan was on KJDY’s Coffee Time Thursday morning. Toward the end of the visit, Sullivan informed listeners that the GSWCD was tasked with assessing the amount of land burned so far this wildfire season.
Sullivan gave out a few grim statistics:
“Just looking at the fire-burned perimeters with the tax lots that we have on the computer…it looks like over 314,000 acres have burned in Grant County since July. That’s over 10% of the total county. So, pretty big numbers. Of that, we’re estimating about 88,000 acres are private lands.”
Sullivan said about 155 different landowners within Grant County have been affected by wildfire this season.
