JOHN DAY – Blue Mountain Hospital District’s Family Nurse Practitioner Erika Adams was on KJDY’s Coffee Time Tuesday to discuss well child checks. She said even when your child is seemingly in good physical health, the checks are a good way to detect any early conditions, including behavioral and mental health challenges.

Adams suggests scheduling the checks during the child’s birth month:

“Well child checks are usually paid for through the [parent’s] insurance. Ideally, we would like the child to come in on their birth month, but if we need to get caught up, we get caught up. The other part of that is if they need a sports physical for school, we’re able to combine those together, and then the sports physical is free as part of that.”
