One man arrested after firing shots in John Day

JOHN DAY – UPDATE (From the Grant County Sheriff’s Office)-

On the evening of September 14th near 10:42 pm, the Grant County Emergency Communication Center (GCECC) started receiving multiple 911 calls reporting shots being fired at the Bare Bones Bar in John Day. 

Deputies responded immediately as additional units were called out to assist with the situation. 

Eric Allen Lawhead, 36, of Ukiah, was arrested on charges of Unlawful use of a Weapon, Pointing a Firearm at Another, Menacing, Hit and Run (two counts) DUII, and Disorderly Conduct. Lawhead was located near mile post 157 on Highway 26 near 1051 pm after fleeing the scene. 

No persons reported being struck from the gunfire at the scene. 

This is an active investigation and no further details will be released at this time.

PREVIOUSLY REPORTED: On Saturday, September 14th, at approximately 10:42 p.m., the Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shots fired incident at a local bar on West Main Street in John Day. Oregon State Police and John Day Ambulance also responded to the scene.

Eric Lawhead, 36, of Ukiah was arrested for Unlawful Use of a Firearm and other charges not specified on the press logs. No further official information was released on the incident. Witnesses say no one was injured as a result of the shooting. We’ll provide updates from law enforcement as they come in.
