WALLA WALLA – The Washington State Department of Ecology reports that work is currently underway on the site of Stillwater Holdings Chevron in downtown Walla Walla. The department said the work is to identify the location of the gasoline leak that has been in the news since last September.
Ecology Site Manager Beth Kercher said the work is being conducted as an independent action by the property owner. After being identified as the source of the gas leak, Stillwater Holdings hired an environmental consultant and contractor to investigate and to help create a cleanup plan.
According to Ecology, Stillwater Holdings began removing old product lines and dispensers and replacing them with new ones last week. The department states this work is not part of the requirements under Ecology’s enforcement action.
