PENDLETON – The Whitman Spring Fire reached 100 percent containment on Saturday. The fire is located near the Buck Mountain area approximately 28 miles east of Pendleton. It is on the Walla Walla Ranger District in the North Fork Umatilla Wilderness.
Meanwhile, an incident management team from the Oregon Department of Forestry has taken command of the Fossil Complex which is currently comprised of five fires. Those fires are Service, Kinzua, Canyon, Holmes, and Two Cabin.
Fire officials report that the Holmes, Canyon, and Two Cabin fires have remained in their footprint, but winds on Saturday caused a spot fire on the Kinzua to grow to 2.5 acres before they could begin securing the perimeter.
