HARNEY COUNTY-The Sagehen Fire west of Burns, with its rough-flown perimeter, including spot fires, shows around 8,000 acres, less than estimated from earlier ground visuals. Winds picked up, giving firefighters a run for their money. Only about 500 acres burned yesterday, with much credit given to the onslaught of air tankers and helicopters. The Sagehen fire is 100% lined, and day and night shifts will prioritize holding and securing the boundary before assuring any containment.
The Solomon Fire located on South Steens, remains around 2,600 acres with zero size increase today. Lots of water and retardant work from the air and more loads of smoke jumpers made for success. There are several sections of established containment lines and firefighters are working to tie those together to create a solid control perimeter.
