ELGIN – Cycle Oregon participants will make their way through Elgin this weekend and early next week. During the festivities Cycle Oregon will have live music and more plus throughout the City of Elgin there will be vendors.
In honor of Cycle Oregon, Addison Evans, an Elgin High School student, designed a logo inspired by her hometown. Elkhorn Media Group Staff recently had a chance to gather some information from Addison about this project including what inspirations.
(EMG) What is your name, and grade and do you have any plans for after high school?
(AE) “My name is Addison Evans and I am a sophomore at Elgin Highschool. I don’t have any set plans for after I graduate, but I would love to study fine arts, or graphic design if given the chance.”
(EMG) What prompted you to design the Cycle Oregon Logo?
(AE) “Back in February of this year, I was asked by the local Cycle Oregon committee to create a western themed logo titled “Saddle Up” for Cycle Oregon. I was very excited and once I was finished, we sent the logo to the state Cycle Oregon team where it was then approved in May.”
(EMG) How did you come up with the design? What sort of things inspired it?
(AE) “When I was creating this design, I took lots of inspiration from things that define our town. One being the blue mountains which you can see silhouetted with rope in the background of my design. I was very influenced by the culture of Elgin, and decided to use a rope in my design because I think it represents all of the hard working farmers and ranchers that play such a big part in our community.”
(EMG) Is your logo the one that will be used for Cycle Oregon entirely or just for Elgin?
(AE) “Cycle Oregon has their own logo, but many of the staff members will be wearing my design while on site.)
(EMG) I was told that people will be able to purchase items with the logo, how will people be able to make those purchases and where?
(AE) “Lynique Oveson and I worked to create a simple online form for customers to pre order. These orders will be available to pick up on the 8th, 9th, and 13th when cycle Oregon comes through town. During these days, we will also have a booth set up at the Elgin stampede grounds where people order in person. We are offering long sleeves, t-shirts, tank tops, and hoodies.”
(EMG) Is there anything else you would like to share?
(AE) “I am very grateful to the Cycle Oregon committee and the community for giving me such an amazing opportunity to share my art. I hope to have many more opportunities like this in the future.”
