UNION – During the Union County Board of Commissioners meeting on August 21, commissioners officially approved a new agreement between the City of Union and the Union County Sheriff’s Office. This agreement allows the Sheriff’s Office to provide formal dog control services for the city, in addition to all current law enforcement and emergency services. As written in the agreement:
“COUNTY will provide dog control services, including licensing and kennel inspections with associated fees and licensing with the city limits of CITY to the extent and in the manner hereinafter set forth. The dog control services will encompass duties and functions within the jurisdiction of, and customarily rendered by, the Sheriff of the COUNTY, and pursuant to the status of the State of Oregon and Ordinances of Union County. Such services will include the enforcement of the State Criminal Statutes.”
As per the agreement, the city will be charged $32.00 per hour for services. This fee only applies during active dog control services within city limits.
