WALLA WALLA – A Walla Walla man arrested for allegedly assaulting his infant son was formally charged Wednesday of first-degree murder and homicide by abuse. The infant, described as being approximately 4 months old, passed away Tuesday.

Ramiro Corona Ibarra, 31, was arrested Aug. 15 after allegedly assaulting a child. He was located and taken into custody about three hours after the initial 911 call was received, stating the baby was not breathing. Corona Ibarra was not at the scene when the police first arrived.

Walla Walla County Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney April King said Corona Ibarra entered a not guilty plea Wednesday to the amended charges. A pre-trial hearing is set for Sept. 12 and his jury trial is set to begin Oct. 14.
