WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla Police Department reports Carmen G. Ledezma, 48, of Walla Walla has been booked into the Walla Walla County Jail for unlawful imprisonment for knowingly restraining a two-year-old child.
Officers were dispatched at 7:18 p.m. Friday to the Evergreen Commons, 1627 Evergreen St. for a report of an attempted kidnapping. According to WWPD, Ledezma approached the 2-year-old child and the child’s 13-year-old sibling at the apartment complex playground. The teenager was watching their younger sibling as their mother was inside their apartment.
After saying a few words to the 13-year-old sibling, police said Ledezma picked up the 2 year old and walked toward Ledezma’s apartment. The 13 year old immediately called their mother who quickly came outside, confronted Ledezma and took her child back.
Ledezma told officers she took the child because the mother and 13 year old were abusing it. Investigators found no indication of abuse. WWPD reports it has a history of mental-health-related incidents with Ledezma. The Walla Walla County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kelly Buerstatte confirmed the charges of unlawful imprisonment will be filed against the suspect this morning (Tuesday).
