Malheur National Forest further reduces area closure

Malheur National Forest officials have further reduced the South Area Closure associated with the Falls and Telephone Fires. This closure area reduction will provide access to National Forest lands no longer impacted by wildfire or wildfire suppression and repair efforts. Portions of the area around the fires will remain in a closure to protect public health and safety.

This closure will be effective August 21, 2024, through December 31, 2024, unless rescinded sooner. This Forest Order, Falls and Telephone Fire Area Closure (06-04-00-24-22), rescinds and replaces the previous South Area Closure #3 (06-04-00-24-20).

Telephone Fire Area Description:

  • Starting at Forest Service Road 2840 at the Forest boundary east to the junction of Forest Service Road 2840 and 2800.
  • North along Forest Service Road 2800 to the junction of Forest Service Road 2860.
  •  North and East along Forest Service Road 2860 to the junction of Forest Service Road 1705.
  •  Following the 1705 to the Forest boundary.
  • South around the Forest boundary to Forest Service Road 684 and 507.
  • West along Forest Service Road 507 to Forest Service Road 2820.
  • North and East along Forest Service Road 2820 to the junction of Forest Service Road 3935.
  • East along Forest Service Road 3935 to the junction with Forest Service Road 534.
  • Following Forest Service Road 534 to Strawberry Creek to the Forest boundary.
  • Following the Forest Boundary Northeast to Forest Service Road 2840.

Falls Fire Area Description:

  • Starting at Forest Service Road 3700 and the Forest boundary west to the junction of Forest Service Road 3780.
  • North along Forest Service Road 3780 to the junction of Forest Service Road 488.
  • West along Forest Service Road 488 to the junction of Forest Service Road 3100.
  • Following Forest Service Road 3100 to the junction of Forest Service Road 3180 and south to Officer Creek.
  • Following Officer Creek to the Forest boundary.
  • Following the Forest boundary until it intersects with Forest Service Road 4385.
  • Following Forest Service Road 4385 to Forest Service Road 4300.
  • South along Forest Service Road 4300 to the junction of Forest Service Road 4365.
  • West along Forest Service Road 4365 to the junction of Forest Service Road 4100.
  • Following Forest Service Road 4100 to the junction of Forest Service Road 4140.
  • North along Forest Service Road 4140 until it intersects with Stinger Creek.
  • Following Stinger Creek to the Forest boundary until it intersects with US highway 395.
  • North along US Highway 395 to the junction of Forest Service Road 3100.
  • Following Forest Service Road 3100 to the junction of Forest Service Road 3130.
  • Following Forest Service Road 3130 to Forest Service Road 061.
  • Following Forest Service Road 061 to the Forest boundary and North to the Forest boundary.
  • Following the Forest boundary to Forest Service Road 3700.
