WALLA WALLA – The city of Walla Walla performed dye testing Tuesday on a janitorial
sink located in the building at 106 N. Second Ave. The test confirmed that the treated
water from Clean Harbors filtration system, which is going into the janitorial sink, does
discharge into the city’s sewer system on Rose Street.

Sam Rudnick, the building’s owner, notified the Washington State Department of
Ecology last Thursday of his concerns that it did not.

Nick Aklam with Ecology’s toxic cleanup program said Tuesday’s dye testing showed
the treated water is going where it’s intended to go.

The filtration system was installed in Rudnick’s building by Clean Harbors following last
September’s gas spill at the Stillwater Holdings Chevron, which is located next door.
