BAKER COUNTY — Hewitt Park along Brownlee Reservoir is now closed to accommodate the Idaho Power river bank stabilization project, according to Baker County officials. The closure began August 12 and includes camping, day use, and boat launching facilities, and no public access will be allowed in the work area. The park is expected to reopen in November 2024.
The project will begin with the removal of trees at the site to prepare for the stabilization work. While Hewitt Park is closed, Holcomb Park remains open for camping until October 31, 2024. However, the boat ramp at Holcomb Park is closed due to low water levels.
Baker County officials emphasized that the safety of park users and the construction crew is the top priority during this period. They urge the public not to enter Hewitt Park during the closure, warning that violators will be prosecuted.
