HARNEY AND GRANT COUNTY-Fire crews have been assisting with chipping branches and debris as part of the ongoing efforts on the Falls and Telephone Fires. Despite challenging fire weather conditions yesterday, containment lines held with no major changes to the fires. Interior pockets produced smoke yesterday.
Quick Facts:
• Falls Fire: 95% contained, 151,680 acres, started July 10, 2024 (Human-caused)
• Telephone Fire: 95% contained, 54,034 acres, started July 22, 2024 (Lightning/Natural)
Today, crews are focused on monitoring containment lines, improving mop-up depth, and continuing to backhaul equipment.
As noted above, interior unburned pockets of fuel are still burning, so you may see smoke and flames—this is normal at this stage, and fire crews are closely monitoring these areas. No significant fire growth is expected.
