WALLA WALLA – Walla Walla City Manager Elizabeth Chamberlain and Public Works Director Ki Bealey made a presentation at Monday’s Walla Walla County Board of Commissioners meeting on the Myra Road South Extension from State Route 125 to Taumarson Road.
Bealey explained the extension would include roundabouts at Myra/Highland and Myra/Taumarson. He added that among the benefits would be reducing emergency response times and congestion on Plaza Way.
As for the project’s timeline, Bealey said, “Moving fast, hoping to go right through design and move into construction next year.”
Chamberlain told the commissioner’s the city adopted a tax increment financing area back in May to help fund the project which is estimated at $12.5 million. However, she added that the city is also seeking grants.
In addition to the benefits Bealey shared, Chamberlain added that extending Myra Road is an economic development mechanism as the property has been zoned highway commercial since 2008. She adds this project also creates jobs and opportunities for housing.
The city hopes to schedule a public open house on the Myra Road South Extension next month.
