ISLAND CITY – The Union County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for any information related to a possible arson case that occurred near Island City Elementary School in the early morning on August 13.
The La Grande Rural fire protection district responded to an initially unknown fire at approximately 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Crews quickly determined it to be a shed on fire and fully ingulfed near the parking lot of the Island City Elementary School. The fire was quickly extinguished, and no injuries were reported.
The Union County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the fire as a possible arson case. Witnesses canvased immediately after the fire claim to remember hearing a young female and young male voice in the area. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Union County Sheriff’s Office. Residents in the area with security cameras are also asked to check if they may have caught anything. Those with info can call the UCSO non-emergency line at 541-963-1017 and speak to the on-duty deputy regarding the arson case.
