BAKER CITY — A Baker City man was arrested late on the night of August 5 after allegedly assaulting his father during a domestic disturbance, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Baker County Circuit Court.

Jorge Luis Duran, 25, faces charges of fourth-degree assault and resisting arrest following an altercation at his residence on 13th St. Officers from the Baker City Police Department responded to a disturbance call at approximately 11:14 p.m. and found the situation escalating.

According to officers, the incident began when Duran allegedly turned off the television his father was watching. When his father asked him why, Duran reportedly attacked his father, punching him multiple times in the face. Officers observed that the victim had a bloodshot left eye and an open wound on his lip, which the father described as causing significant pain.

According to the affidavit, police were met outside the residence by a minor who appeared frightened and stated that her brother was fighting their father. Upon entering the home, officers heard screaming and a scuffle. They found Jorge Duran holding his father’s wrists while another sibling attempted to separate them.

When police intervened, Jorge Duran initially claimed they were “just wrestling.” However, the father immediately denied this, indicating he was not participating willingly. As officers tried to de-escalate the situation, Jorge Duran became combative, pushing against officers and refusing to comply with commands.

Officer Mason Powell reported having to use force to subdue and detain Jorge Duran after he resisted arrest and attempted to bargain with the officer. Duran was eventually restrained and taken into custody without further incident.

The victim was treated for his injuries at the scene.  Duran is now facing multiple charges.
