MONUMENT – Residents in Monument have been getting their belongings ready under the Level 1 advisory in place. The Boneyard Fire, north of Monument jumped containment lines yesterday and grew from 300 acres to 800 acres. The entire Top Road community is at a Level 3—GO NOW advisory. The City of Monument is currently in a Level 1—BE READY advisory.
Grant County Emergency Management Coordinator Eric Bush was in KJDY studios Friday morning with an update:
“Fortunately, you know, in this area there are very few structures. There are a few residences out there; most of them are unoccupied. The Sheriff has literally been on the ground, knocking on doors out there, personally talking to people from one end of that colored [evacuation] map to the other last night.”
