UNION COUNTY — A Spokane Valley man has been arrested following a series of incidents involving trespassing and vehicle theft in Union County.

George Wayne Brooks, 51, was first arrested on July 9,  after unlawfully entering the Oregon Department of Transportation weigh station building near milepost 258 on I-84 eastbound. According to Oregon State Trooper Eric Madsen, Brooks was taken into custody and lodged at Union County Jail on a charge of Criminal Trespassing II.

Later the same day, OSP Trooper Kainoa Delatori responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle near River Bend Youth Authority in La Grande. A white Nissan Altima, reported stolen from Walla Walla County, was found parked off the roadway. Further investigation revealed Brooks had been seen asking for money in Ukiah, matching the description from the earlier trespassing arrest.

On July 10, 2024, Brooks was arrested for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (UUMV) after evidence linked him to the stolen vehicle. He was again transported to Union County Jail  and booked on the charge.

The same day, Trooper Delatori was called to assist with a disturbance at May Lane Apartments in La Grande. Upon arrival, Delatori identified Brooks as the individual causing the disturbance. Brooks was arrested and again booked on a UUMV charge related to the stolen vehicle from July 9, 2024.

Brooks remains in custody at the Union County Jail.
