Two girls rescued after jet ski accident at Phillips Reservoir, one airlifted to hospital

UPDATE – Monday, July 8 at 5:30pm: On July 6, 2024 at approximately 6:05 p.m., Baker County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch received a report of two juveniles involved in a jet ski crash at Phillips Reservoir. The reporting party stated that one of the victims was having trouble maintaining consciousness.

Deputies responded to the scene. Upon arrival, Deputy Hansen was flagged down by the reporting party, identified as Kelsie McDaniel. McDaniel and her husband pulled the juveniles from the water and transported them via boat to Union Creek Campground to meet first responders.

The juvenile females, ages 12 and 14, were operating a single jet ski when, for an unknown reason, they fell off. One sustained a head injury and was transported by Life Flight to a regional hospital. The other juvenile was released to family members. Both juveniles were wearing life jackets.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.

Baker County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by U.S. Forest Service, Powder River Rural Fire Protection District, Pioneer Ambulance and Life Flight.

BAKER COUNTY –  A jet ski accident at Phillips Reservoir on Saturday evening resulted in injuries to two juveniles, according to the Baker County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO).

Dispatch received a report of the accident at 6:05 p.m. One of the juveniles was transported by Life Flight to St. Luke’s Boise for treatment. The other juvenile’s condition is not yet known.

Pioneer Ambulance and Powder River QRU responded to the scene, providing initial medical assistance. BCSO deputies and a U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer also responded to the incident.

Further details about the accident are unavailable at this time, but the BCSO says a press release with more information is expected Monday once the completed report is available.
