BAKER COUNTY — Hey parents, here’s a reminder to tell your teens: tying their shoes while driving is usually not a great idea.

Oregon State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on June 28 just after 6:00am on Highway 30 between Baker City and Haines, thanks to a 17-year-old driver who thought otherwise.

Upon arrival, officers found a white Ford Fusion lodged against a tree on its passenger side. The driver, a 17-year-old boy,  told OSP that he lost control of the vehicle while attempting to tie his shoe, which he had placed on the dashboard. Troopers say evidence at the scene corroborated his account.

The teen was luckily uninjured, but  was cited for Careless Driving and received a warning for failing to wear his seatbelt.
