WALLA WALLA – The trial for a Walla Walla man accused of shooting Washington State Patrol Trooper Dean Atkinson Jr. on Sept. 22, 2022, has been rescheduled. The trial for Brandon Dennis O’Neel, 38, will begin on Sept. 23.

The trial had been originally scheduled to begin later this month, however, Walla Walla County Prosecuting Attorney Gabe Acosta said that last Thursday, O’Neel’s defense attorney stated a need for more time to prepare for the trial trial and waived his client’s right to a speedy trial which the court used to set a new trial day.

O’Neel faces multiple charges including first-degree attempted murder, plus threats to bomb or injure property.
