BAKER CITY — A Baker City man faces multiple charges after he allegedly assaulted his mother after she confronted him about his drug use.
On June 26 at approximately 10:21 p.m, a woman called police, saying she was assaulted by her son, 32-year-old Kodie Givens, at their home on Myrtle St. The alleged attack resulted in the woman suffering a cut on her finger and pain in her mouth and leg.
According to the Baker City Police Department, the altercation began when the mother confronted Kodie about his methamphetamine use earlier in the day and mentioned finding a rehab center for him. Kodie became angry, taking his mom’s phone to prevent her from calling the police.
During the struggle, Kodie allegedly hit his mom in the mouth and face, and as they wrestled for the phone, she fell, injuring her knee.
Neighbors, alarmed by the commotion, intervened and called 911. The next-door neighbor who reported hearing the disturbance through the shared wall and allowed the mother to use her phone to call for help.
When officers arrived, Kodie admitted to having smoked methamphetamine earlier in the day and confessed to the assault. He expressed regret over his actions, acknowledging his wrongdoings. Kodie, who police say is developmentally delayed, stated that he knew he should have taken a step back to calm down but was overwhelmed by anger during the incident.
Police say the mom, visibly distressed, repeatedly expressed her desire to get help for her son. She showed officers the cut on her finger, which was bleeding, and described the pain in her mouth and leg, although no visible injuries were observed on her face.
Kodie was arrested for multiple charges, including Assault Domestic Violence, Interfering with Making a Report, Harassment Domestic Violence, and Disorderly Conduct.
