Grant County Youth Livestock Auction Scholarship due July 1st

JOHN DAY – The Grant County Youth Livestock Auction Committee supports local youngsters in several ways. The auction, during the final day at the Grant County Fair, is the big one—which helped to raise $547,037 for Grant County youth at last year’s event.

The committee also has a scholarship opportunity available for graduating (or in this case, just graduated) high school seniors, and the application is due Monday:

“The application deadline is July 1st, so it’s really coming up close. I have a few, but I think there are more kids out there that might qualify.

It’s kind of a one-time thing, so when you’re a senior, you can apply. You have to have participated in four auctions—so, have sold four animals through the auction. It could have been when you were a younger kid in grade school, or you could be showing one this year, and that could be your fourth.”

Springer said the scholarships can be emailed to the address provided on the application; mailed and postmarked no later than July 1st; or, handed in at her office at the Planning Department in the Grant County Courthouse.

This year’s Grant County Youth Livestock Auction will be held August 10th.
