Fire destroys wooden pallets, outbuilding in Pasco

PASCO – The Pasco Fire Department was dispatched at 8:41 a.m. Monday to a report of a fire that involved a large pile of wooden pallets at Tri-City Pallets,335 East B Circle. An employee called 911 and reported the fire, with additional callers stating several pallets were burning.
A defensive operation began with the primary objective of protecting structures and additional resources were called in. Firefighters from the Kennewick Fire Department, Franklin County Fire Districts No. 3, 4 and 5, Walla Walla County Fire District No. 5, Benton County Fire Districts No. 1, 2 and 4, West Benton Fire Rescue, Hanford Fire Department, along with staff from the Pasco Police Department, Pasco Public Works, Franklin County PUD and Bonneville Power all assisted.
Due to moderate wind conditions, embers sparked several natural vegetation fires around the general area. One home suffered window damage from the heat.
During the operation, part of an outbuilding was destroyed, along with five semi-trailers and multiple rows of stacked pallets. Due to the height of the pallets and the large flames, several power lines were also compromised and fell across part of the property.
No injuries were reported and the fire was contained within 3 hours and deemed under control at 2:18 p.m.
The cause and origin of the fire is currently under investigation.
