BAKER CITY – Elkhorn Media Group was presented with a certificate of appreciation from the Baker School District Board for its coverage of the recent massive fire at the Central School Building.
Certificates were presented by interim superintendent Betty Palmer to EMG’s Shannon McKone and Joe Hathaway at the district board meeting on Wednesday, June 18.
The school district says it wanted to express gratitude to all its partners who aided, whether they were on-site or assisted with communication.
Elkhorn Media Group was at the scene of the fire and provided up-to-the minute updates to the community on social media and radio all day when it burned on May 22. The fire, which is still under investigation, gutted the historic building.
“We were committed to keeping the community informed during this devastating event. It’s an honor to be recognized by the Baker School District for our efforts,” said Shannon. “At Elkhorn Media Group, we have always been dedicated to informing the local public, especially during critical times. Ensuring our community stays connected and well-informed is at the heart of what we do.”
“Covering the fire was challenging, but our primary goal was to ensure that everyone had accurate and timely information,” said Joe. “We’re grateful for the appreciation from the school district.”
Several other organizations and first responders who also assisted during the fire were also recognized for their efforts.
