Demolition begins on La Grande’s old annex building

LA GRANDE – Out with the old and in with the new. With the community salvage day now over, and final mementos gathered, Demolition of the La Grande Annex Building officially begins today, June 17th. Prep-Work began in the morning, with demolition proper beginning in the afternoon. According to Jarod Teater with Mike Becker General Contractor, the full demolition, including cleanup, is expected to take anywhere from 2-3 weeks and will not be a quick process.

With minimal school traffic during summer break, no road or sidewalk closures are currently planned. However, residents are asked to avoid M Avenue between 2nd street and 4th street if possible due to increased truck traffic near the building. Crews will attempt to keep the street open throughout the demolition process but may still close a Portion of M Avenue if deemed necessary.
