HERMISTON – Veronica Ruiz, 35, of Hermiston was taken to Umatilla County Jail following a disturbance early Sunday morning. Police Chief Jason Edmiston said initial call from Jeova Guzman, 34, of West Locust Avenue reported that Ruiz was keying his car with a knife and trying to stab him.

Ruiz fled the scene and Edmiston said that when police approached her in the parking lot of her residence on Southwest Ninth Street, she fled on foot and was apprehended. Before she left West Locust Avenue, Edmiston said it appeared she caused over $6,000 in damage to a total of four vehicles.

“She admitted to the car damage and provided video footage of the incident,” the chief stated.

Charges against Ruiz include two felonies. They are attempted unlawful use of a weapon and first-degree criminal mischief (vandalism). She is also charged with three misdemeanors. They are menacing, attempt to elude, and harassment.
