Malheur National Forest implements temporary closure on 16 road for bridge replacement

JOHN DAY, PRAIRIE CITY AND HINES (Released by the U.S. Forest Service)-The Malheur National Forest is implementing a temporary road closure on a section of the 1600-000 road for the Big Creek bridge replacement project. This project is addressing needed bridge replacement and road improvements. Work is beginning Friday, June 7, 2024, through early October.

A temporary closure ensures the safety of the public from construction machinery and the safety of construction employees while completing the bridge work. The detour will be well signed on the ground.

Big Creek campground will be closed. Alternative campgrounds in the area are:

·        Parish Cabin

·        Murray

·        Little Crane Creek

·        Elk Creek

Forest Service Road closure locations:

·        On the 1600-000 road at the 1600-924 spur road

·        On the 1600-000 road at the 1648-000 road.

·        On the 1647-000 road between junction of 1651-000 and the 1647-904 spur road

Closure signs are posted on the ground, and a detailed map of the closure is available on the Malheur National Forest website and at Forest offices.
