JOHN DAY – Fire season begins Monday of next week on ODF-protected lands. Oregon Department of Forestry John Day Unit Forester Dustin Gustaveson was recently on KJDY’s Coffee Time to inform listeners of the coming changes:
“We’re going into fire season at 12:01 a.m. on June 10th. That is for the Central Oregon District, which includes the John Day area. There will be no open burning allowed, except for campfires.
We’re changing things up a little bit this year, in that we’re going to start issuing burn permits for this time period that we are in fire season, until we go into Regulated Closures, which is usually around the first part of July.”
Gustaveson also mentioned for folks to check with their local fire jurisdictions for further restrictions.
To see about getting an ODF burn permit, call the Oregon Department of Forestry Office in John Day at 541-575-1139.
