BAKER COUNTY — Curtis Martin, a longtime rancher from North Powder, has conceded the race for Baker County Commissioner Position 1 to Michelle Kaseberg.

Though results are not official until June 12, Kasberg was leading Martin 53.79% (2,607 votes) to 45.97% (2,228 votes)  as of Thursday, May 30.

In a letter sent to Elkhorn Media Group from Martin, he says,

I want to sincerely thank all of the broad-based support, and connecting with me, in my Campaign for Baker County Commissioner, Position 1.

Although not successful, I am so appreciative of folks, my friends, plus some that I’d not known before, coming forward, reaching out, that are now friends and will continue the efforts for regaining Local Governance.

Wish the best for Michelle Kaseberg, as well as the other Commissioners. I look forward to staying engaged on the priority issues that most definitely need our whole Community’s attention, plus deepening the commitment for the Constituents of Baker County to be heard, and more importantly respected by state/federal entities.

Again, thanks Everyone, AND stay Engaged!

Sincerely,

Curtis W. Martin

In a statement to Elkhorn Media Group, Kasberg says, “I do want to thank everyone for their support during this campaign. And thank you to Curtis as we stuck to the issues of the county.”

Kaseberg will now replace retiring Commissioner Bruce Nichols when his term is up in January 2025.
