SOUTHEAST OREGON-The BLM installed a new wildfire-detecting camera in southeastern Oregon. The Green Mountain camera is part of a larger network keeping Oregon and Washington safe.

Fire seasons have become longer and more devastating. Wildfire-detecting cameras help the BLM teams identify fires faster and monitor them more efficiently.

Along with partners at the University of Nevada and the University of Oregon the BLM’s goal is statewide fire detection.

Along with detecting fires, these cameras allow them to locate where the ignition occurred, continuously monitor the fire’s behavior, know where to put their resources and conduct safer evacuations.
