EUGENE – Three days of track & field action at historic Hayward Field in Eugene saw athletes and teams from all across Eastern Oregon win state titles.

A few of the many highlights include Imbler boys bringing home the state championship for the 1A Boys competition. The Joseph boys finished 3rd.

It was also a clean sweep for Eastern Oregon for the 1A Girls, with Adrian finishing 1st, Imbler 2nd, Powder Valley 3rd and Joseph 4th.

Highlights from the 4A competition include Baker sophomore Rasean Jones not only winning back-to-back state titles in the Boys 110m & 300m hurdles, but also setting state records in both races for 4A.

La Grande’s Austin Uhl also brought home two titles, winning gold in the 4A Boys 1500m and the Boys 800m, breaking the 4A boys state record with a time of 1:53.64. Baker’s Jaron Long finished in a close second in the 800.

The Tigers had two back-to-back champions, with Brooke Perry winning her second straight 4A Girls 3000m.

Overall in the 4A, Pendleton finishes 3rd in the team standings for the boys, while La Grande finishes 4th, Baker ties for 7th and Ontario at 22nd.

For the girls, La Grande ties for 5th, Pendleton finishes 12th, Ontario finishes 16th and Baker ends up at 23rd.

There was also a controversial ending to competition on Saturday, as the Baker boys 4×400 Relay team handily won the race and set a new meet record, but was disqualified after a Bulldog spiked the baton after crossing the finish line. The OSAA ruled the move was “unsportsmanlike” and took away the Bulldogs victory.
