Baker City mom faces felony for allegedly assaulting young son

BAKER CITY – A Baker City woman faces domestic violence charges after allegedly striking her young son.
Baker City Police Officer Andrew Martin responded to reports of a disturbance at a home on 17th Street near Auburn Avenue on the evening of Wednesday, May 15.
According to a probable cause affidavit, when Officer Martin arrived, a juvenile male told him that he was inside the home and his mother, identified as 41-year-old Holli Jean Childs, was allegedly intoxicated. He said he was laughing to himself about something he did and that his mom struck him because she did not like him laughing.
The boy showed Officer Martin his back and Martin saw a “red, raised, swollen palm print.”
The boy’s sister was outside the home and also told the officer that their mother was “very drunk” and saw Childs hit the boy in the back.
Officer Martin then spoke to Childs, who told him she did not know why he was there and she denied multiple times that she struck her son.
She was arrested and charged with Assault IV – Felony, due to the fact that she allegedly struck her own minor child, as well as Harassment Domestic Violence.
