Former Crane coach accused of sexual abuse set to appear in court

HARNEY COUNTY – A longtime former coach at Crane Union High is set to appear in court on charges he sexually abused a former female player. 

70-year-old Roy Lee “Stub” Travis Jr. is scheduled to be arraigned at the Deschutes County Courthouse at 9:00am on Tuesday, May 7. 

He faces 21 counts of second-degree sex abuse and two counts of giving alcohol to a minor.

Travis is accused of inappropriately touching one of the female basketball players he coached on at least six occasions between June, 2022 and December, 2022. The indictment lists that the female was under 18 at the time of alleged sexual abuse. The crimes allegedly occurred in Harney, Deschutes and Umatilla counties. 

Travis coached the girls basketball team and football team at Crane for decades. The victim is listed as one of his former girls basketball players.
