FINLEY – At the request of Benton County Fire District No. 1, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is lending a hand to determine how a massive warehouse fire at Lineage Logistics in Finley started on Sunday, April 21.
A crew from the fire district continues to actively put water on the fire from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., plus another crew maintains an overnight fire watch.
With about 12 acres of building, firefighters cannot safely get to the areas that are still smoldering. Fire officials said they have been repeatedly asked why aerial resources aren’t being used to put water on the fire. Due to contractual limitations that determine when aerial resources are used, this fire doesn’t meet those. Plus, the fire district said it wants to preserve the point of the fire’s origin as much as possible for investigation purposes.
With concerns about the smoke, the Washington State Department of Ecology installed portable monitors which currently remain in place.
