GRANT COUNTY – This week is National Public Telecommunicators Week; an opportunity for anyone and everyone to show thanks to our local dispatchers, who are often considered the true first response to an emergency. On an earlier episode of Coffee Time, Grant County Emergency Communications Manager Cammie Haney said each day as a dispatcher can be an adventure, and each call that comes in is unique:
“It’s interesting from the dispatch perspective, how, when we dispatch units we are giving them information. Oftentimes they have time to prepare for what they’re going to see when they get there…
As far as dispatch goes, it’s a surprise every time. We don’t get prepped for what’s coming in.
It really is that vital piece between the call and the incident and the first responders that are going.”
Governor Kotek has proclaimed April 14-20 as Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in Oregon.
